Kinder Kritters-- a
program specially designed to meet the needs of Kindergarten
classes.
A day our property will get your young students out and about and
engaged in the environment arround them. Students will rotate
between classes each lasting about 50 minutes. Examples of
stations are listed below. The entire program is designed to last
about three hours.
|

Tree Talk: The
class will begin with a hike outside to observe one of the bigger trees
on our 300 acre property. With the help of an instructor,
students will examine the cross-section of a tree trunk (a tree cookie)
from a tree of similar size. Students will learn how a tree
cookie can be used to trace environmental and historical changes.
Next, students will receive their own smaller tree cookie that they
can decorate and make into a necklace. [Sci. K.1, K.4, K.6 K.9]

Snake
Senses: This
class is team-taught by our pet snakes and trained instructors. Snakes, while they see, smell and hear, they
do so a little differently than humans. By learning about snake
senses, students will review how their own senses work. Students
will also get the chance to use their own senses to describe how our
snakes look, smell and feel. The class ends with an optional
hands-on period. [Sci. K.1, K.2, K.4, K.6]
|
Birds
and Worms: (adapted
from Project Learning Tree) This class emphasizes the importance of
camouflage for survival in the animal kingdom. Students will
learn to predict which colors are best for protection in a given
environment and then test their predictions by actiong as bird
predators for worms hidden outside. [K.1, K.4, K.6]
